At his commencement speech at UMass Dartmouth, Barney Frank raised a few eyebrows when he referenced the Trayvon Martin shooting in an off-color joke.
In the ceremony, where social activist Hubie Jones was being given an honorary doctorate and hood, Frank remarked, “When they give you an honorary doctorate they give you one of these and Hubie, I think you now got a hoodie you can wear and no one will shoot at you.”
The comment roused some nervous laughter.
Frank’s joke was an obvious allusion to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen that was shot and killed this past February, while wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
